Frequently asked questions

What is an IBCLC?

IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. It is the gold standard qualification in lactation care. This qualification takes years of study and clinical practice to reach. We are the experts in lactation support and we are required to stay up to date with the latest research and development in the field.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with most Aetna, Cigna and United insurance plans.

I will provide a Super Bill for Self-Pay clients. You can submit to your insurance company and may be able to get some out of network coverage.

It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company and verify your coverage.

How do I pay for a consult?

Payment is due before the appointment in order to confirm. You may use a credit card or HSA/FSA card. I will keep it on file for any follow-ups that may be needed. Payments are processed through Square which complies with HIPAA privacy rules.

What if I need to change my appointment?

Things come up, I understand! Please respect my time by re-scheduling more than 24 hours before an appointment. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will be charged $50; this is not covered by insurance. If you need to cancel last minute due to an emergency please reach out.

What area do you travel to?

I primarily serve a 20 minute radius from my home in Bloomfield, New Jersey. This includes neighboring towns like Clifton, Nutley, Glen Ridge and Montclair. I cover most of Essex County, and parts of Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties in New Jersey. Details on my service area can be found here. I will consider traveling beyond this area but there is typically a travel fee. Contact me to discuss this before booking if you live outside my service area.

Do you offer virtual appointments?

Yes I am able to offer virtual appointments. Insurance coverage for this varies. With Cigna (Wildflower) I am able to offer 30 minute virtual appointments that are covered. With Aetna and United healthcare the coverage varies by plan so please contact me if you are looking for an insurance covered virtual appointment. I can also offer a self-pay virtual appointment. My rates are available here.

Do you assess for tongue tie?

Yes! I have taken multiple training courses to understand how to evaluate the impact of tongue tie, lip tie and cheek ties on infant feeding. I can assess the function of your baby when they are feeding at the breast and on the bottle. I also evaluate what the tongue, lips and cheeks are doing when sucking on a gloved finger.

Do you refer to other providers?

Yes! Caring for you and your baby takes a team. I communicate with the primary care providers which are the pediatrician for your baby and the obstetrician/ midwife/ primary care doctor for you. I also refer to a range of body workers (osteopath, occupational therapist, physical therapist, chiropractor, craniosacral therapist), speech and language pathologists and tongue tie release providers (pediatric dentists or doctors). Sometimes a referral to a breastfeeding medicine physician is needed.
